Where To Go & What To Do

Santa Barbara County

Solvang - Old
Mission Santa Inés

The Mission was founded on September 17, 1804
by Fathe
r Estevan Tapis, and was named in honor of
Saint Agnes, an ear
ly Christian
martyr of the fourth century.
The Spanish for A
gnes is Inés,
hence the name of the church;
the American Yankees anglicized
the spelling of
the Spanish pronunciation
and named the town Santa Ynez.
The Mission, which commands a superb
view of the Santa
Ynez River Valley
and the Santa Ynez and San Rafael
mountain range
s, continues its central
role in the spiritual and social life of the Santa Ynez Valley as
an active parish church of approximately 1,000 families,
and is administered
by the Capuchin Franciscan order.
We hold regular religious services as well as special services
for baptisms, confirmations, weddings, and funerals.

Buellton- Firestone Brewing Company

Our Firestone Union was inspired by the old
Burton Union system,
once a staple of British beermaking.
The Burton Union was
developed
around 1840 as English tastes shifted
from London porters to pale ales crafted
in Burton-Upon-Trent. The Burton beers

were bright and clear with a firm,
satisfying bite: a taste unique in its
time-and still unique today.
We are the only brewery in the
United States to currently employ the union brewing method.

A series of earthquakes brought down the adobe walls, tiled roofs, while heavy rains caused mud slides and the swollen river flooded fields. A large cross which was constructed in 1912, to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the founding of La Purisima Mission & 100th anniversary of its destruction, by members of the community can be observed on the top of the hill behind the Veterans Memorial Building. To get to the ruins pick up a map from the Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau. The ruins are located at the south end of F Street.

About three-quarters of a mile of the street is closed to cars. Live entertainment is featured and local farmers and vendors sell goods and produce. The Farmers' Market was created in 1983 to make use of downtown streets blocked off to end a tradition of teen/collegiate cruising. Farmers and vendors were allowed to set up between
barricades as a way to bring people back to the downtown area. Later, all traffic was blocked off, making the downtown Farmers' Market one long "mall," even rerouting part of a state highway to accommodate the street closures. The Farmers' Market brought a great deal of revenue and has become internationally known.
